In many ways, luxury watches have rested firmly in the men’s domain (jewellery for women, watches for men). But the needle is moving toward the middle, led by Patek Philippe and Constantin Vacheron with their ladies-only collections.
Quick to follow suit, many Swiss brands have refocused their efforts on women’s watches, and the result is a renaissance of feminine designs and elaborate collections.
If you’re in the market for a luxury women’s watch, keep your eye on these eight trending timepieces.
First launched in 1999, the Twenty-4 has been a classic women’s watch for a generation, with its rectangular shape and articulated bracelet. The new Twenty-4 Automatic doesn’t resemble its predecessor, and many argue that it offers much more.
The updated version comes in five versions across three references, and Patek has offered many variations in colour and design. Perfect for wearing from day to night, the Twenty-4 Automatic is a high-end everyday watch for a woman who loves luxe.
Égérie is Vacheron’s first fully-dedicated ladies’ collection since they launched the previous (and notably different) rendition of Égérie in 2003. The rose-gold moon phase model is delivered with three interchangeable straps; the stainless steel version comes with a steel bracelet.
If you’re seeking distinctive design, explore this collection. With its fan-form dial texture, Breguet numerals and interchangeable strap, it crosses the boundaries between classic and contemporary. In particular, the convertible strap is widely appealing. Who wants to go to the boutique every time you want to change your look?
Rolex’s Lady-Datejust line of luxury watches includes several models to fit different preferences and budget, from brushed steel finishes to diamonds and 18K Everose gold.
The most striking timepiece in the Lady-Datejust line is the Gold Dial 18K Yellow Gold President. It’s elegantly slim, and the case and bracelet are both made of 18-carat yellow gold. Its gold face, gold-tone hands and diamond hour markers exude sophistication and luxury. The President keeps exceptional time, and it’s waterproof to 100 meters (for those of you who take your gold Rolexes out for a swim).
One of the Holy Trinity of Swiss watchmakers, Vacheron Constantin has been crafting sophisticated complications since the 18th century. Today’s Vacheron watches are no less complicated and impressive. The brand’s Overseas collection has become synonymous with sporty elegance.
The women’s Overseas Small Model is a wonder of precision watchmaking, and it’s also a dazzling beauty: 84 round-cut diamonds (totalling more than one carat) gild the six-sided bevel surrounding the watch’s brown-lacquered sunburst face.
Known for producing some of the slimmest luxury watches on the market today, it’s no surprise that Piaget produces incredible women’s watches.
The Piaget Polo Fortyfive features a throwback look, which resonates again with today’s trends. First introduced more than thirty-five years ago, the Polo collection features large numerals and a unique, sporty style. One version features an 18-carat rose gold case with diamond pavé bezel, white face, diamond index marker and white rubber strap. Another gorgeous variation has a rose gold and diamond pavé face with an alligator leather strap.
The Saxonia line from A. Lange and Sohne delivers technical perfection and pure elegance. This German watchmaker went out of business after World War II. Still, fortunately, a family member resuscitated the brand, and today, A. Lange and Sohne is creating some of the most beautiful luxury watches in Europe.
Their Saxonia Mother-of-Pearl and Diamond Watch has an 18-carat white gold case and impeccably cut mother-of-pearl dial. A serene circle of sparkling diamonds ring the white gold bezel, and a white alligator strap finishes off the luminous look.
Most luxury women’s watches are small, distinguishing them from their masculine counterparts. The Blancpain Women Jour Nuit, however, is large but thin. Its larger dial leaves more room for delicious details, leading to its incredible wow factor.
This timepiece is an intricate technological marvel with its mother-of-pearl dial divided into three sections on four levels. A day-night disc turns twice per day and is visible on the upper half of the face. The disc’s varying shades of blue symbolise the changing sky: the watch has a constantly changing appearance. Also: the dial’s sun is made from 50 yellow sapphires, and the moon consists of 50 diamonds. Another 14 diamonds represent the stars. How can the sky compare with such a masterpiece on your wrist?
The Roaring 20s are back, and Cartier’s Ballon Blanc encapsulates the diamond-dripping glitter of the era. The Ballon Blanc’s small and thin case comes in 18-carat white or rose gold. Two rows of diamonds line the bezel, and these aren’t just any diamonds. These are hand-selected Cartier gems.
To top it all off, Cartier selects a large, nearly perfect (IF, VVS1) colourless solitaire diamond in a separate setting next to the number four on the timepiece’s face. If only the bracelet didn’t distract from the watch’s perfect face! But it does. The polished, segmented 18-carat white gold bracelet consists of rows of diamonds set to look like a fluid ribbon, pinched where it meets the dial. Perfection.
