Twelve Apostles Australia at sunset - top honeymoon destination .jpg

Planning a marriage proposal requires a lot of important considerations, from what type of ring to use, to where you’ll pop the big question. If you’re in the process of deciding where to propose, we’re here to make things a little bit easier for you.

Here are our top five destinations in Australia to propose to your loved one.

The Whitsundays

The 74 Whitsunday islands are nestled between the northeast coast of Queensland and the majestic Great Barrier Reef. With a fantastic variety of spas and hotels available, it’s the perfect destination for a romantic getaway. If you’re looking for the right place to get down on one knee, consider doing it while flying above the famous heart-shaped island. You can even follow it up with an idyllic picnic on Whitehaven beach.

The Twelve Apostles

This collection of limestone stacks can be found just off the shores of Port Campbell National Park in Victoria. To tie this incredible location into your proposal, you will need to drive a little bit, but the road trip is worth it. Thankfully, it includes a journey on one of the world’s most scenic coastal routes through the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

Noosa Heads

Noosa Heads is a picturesque town and suburb of the Shire of Noosa, found on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. If you’re into the great outdoors, this might just be the place for you and your significant other. With hiking trails, horse riding and cruises along the Noosa River, there is a lot of opportunities to make some memories. For a truly romantic proposal, try renting out a gondola and asking the question on the Noosa Canal.

Barossa Valley

If wine is your thing, Barossa Valley is probably the best wine-producing region in the country. With more than 150 wineries in the area, you will never go thirsty in Barossa Valley. If you’re looking to create a memorable experience, rent out a hot air balloon ride and propose to your partner from a few hundred feet in the air.

Wineglass Bay

Found in Freycinet National Park in eastern Tasmania, Wineglass Bay has become an iconic location for proposals. Alongside its stunning natural beauty, the park is surrounded by some of Tasmania’s most popular foodie destinations. For a truly unforgettable proposal, take a hike to the shores and take in the views.

Above all, once you’ve decided where to go, remember to insure your engagement ring before heading off. This is especially true when travelling to an exotic or location that will be outdoors, where it’s common to lose bits and pieces along the way.
