It is not just the beauty of the engagement ring designs that make them a thing to behold, but they also serve as a form of self-expression. It is a powerful statement that couples make to one another, showcasing their commitment and love in a way that is unique to them. Whether you're looking for asymmetrical pieces or vintage-inspired settings, the trends of 2023 are sure to inspire you! So let's take a closer look at what's to come.

Vintage-Inspired Rings

It may be the sentiment of a family heirloom or a timeless beauty; whatever the reason, vintage engagement ring designs have always been popular, and 2023 is no exception.

Unfortunately, most of us have limited access to a family treasure chest. If this is the case, then this is the trend for you to keep an eye––or a ring finger on! 2023 is bringing to the altar vintage-inspired engagement rings––custom designed to give their wearers the opulence of a brand-new engagement ring with the timeless beauty of vintage styling.

When shopping for a vintage engagement ring, it's important to note that "vintage" refers to a piece that has been around for 20 years or more. Whereas "antique" is a piece that has been around for at least 100 years. The vintage-inspired ring trend is based on a design with a vintage-inspired aesthetic, generally covering the 1920s up through the Millennium.

Modern Art-Deco

Originating in France circa 1910, the Art Deco design era showcased elaborate ring designs that continued well into and through the 1930s. Often featuring fewer diamonds than eras gone by, instead focussing on the rich colour of exquisite gemstones––think emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and onyx set in unique geometric shapes, designed with mathematical precision.

Modern elegance combined with precise, exquisite craftsmanship has meant that art-deco pieces remain on trend and popular amongst couples looking for a unique engagement ring. Together,  these features offer couples a timeless piece of history to symbolise their love and commitment.

Pear and Oval Rings

Both pear and oval-shaped engagement ring designs are undeniably experiencing a significant comeback, and it's easy to see why. Whether it be inspiration from the iconic $2 million 12-carat oval sparkler that led Blake Lively to say 'Yes!' to beau Ryan Reynolds or the 20-carat pear-shaped beauty that adorns the ring finger of Paris Hilton––one thing for sure, these unique shapes are set to be a popular trend for 2023.

And what's more, the elongated shape of a pear-cut diamond makes a statement of its own with its unique and modern cut, and it appears visually larger than some of its traditional counterparts, such as the classic round brilliant. Furthermore, this trend can offer a cost-effective alternative to achieving that celebrity size within your desired budget without compromising quality or beauty.

Bezel Set Diamond Rings

Engagement ring trends are circular, and one that's back is the bezel setting, and for a good reason––it offers more than just aesthetics. Unlike its counterpart, which holds its gemstone using prongs, the bezel setting surrounds a stone with a thin metal outline. The stone may have either a full bezel or a half bezel.

Aside from beauty, with the metal rim protecting the stone from damage, the bezel setting is ideal for frequent or long-term wear. If not cared for properly with prong settings, a stone will likely get caught or bent out of shape.

Asymmetrical Pieces

When thinking of an engagement ring design, you wouldn't be misplaced if a solitaire was the first picture that came to mind. After all, it's both a classic and elegant design. However, to some couples, it may be too predictable.

So for those seeking a unique, bespoke piece, the increasing trend of an asymmetrical engagement ring is an aisle you'll want to walk down. Singer Ariana Grande, owner of a  statement-making asymmetrical engagement ring, has an oval shaped diamond set at an angle and a pearl alongside it. Individuality? We're already on board with this trend.

Protect Your Engagement Ring

If 2023 is the year to propose, then the trends mentioned above are certainly the ones to watch. Whether it's a homage to the rare green 8.5-carat cushion cut diamond worn by Jennifer Lopez that you're after or an understated asymmetrical bespoke piece, when it comes to engagement ring designs, 2023 ensures that there is something for everyone.

What's more, taking out an engagement ring insurance policy will protect your beautiful ring, regardless of which design you have chosen––and keeps your ring covered if it becomes damaged, lost or stolen.
