Your heart’s all a-flutter and it’s hard to sit still. So you’ve decided to...
No insurance policy will cover you for this. it’s up to you to ensure that, for example, the claws holding your diamond are not loose.
If you do make a claim with your insurance company, they will have it examined by a jeweller who may say that there’s proof of wear and tear. This will allow them to reject your claim.
Taking your ring to your jeweller every six months to have it cleaned may not be enough, especially if you’re taking it to a “chain store” jeweller who may not know how to check your ring for wear and tear.
There is a handy way you can check for yourself though - watch the video above for a demonstration - raise the ring to your ear and give it a tap with your finger. If you hear any movement, such as a clicking sound, that could be the first sign a stone is loose.
Obviously, as an insurance company we do not recommend walking around with a loose stone! You certainly don’t want the run-around trying to replace it.
